Record-breaking rainfall hit Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures on August 27, prompting the highest-level emergency alert, with some drug deliveries suspended due to poor road conditions even as wholesalers reported no injuries or damage to their facilities.
Jiho contacted five wholesalers operating in the Hokuriku central Japan region, where the prefectures are located, on the same day. Medipal Holdings, Suzuken, Toho Holdings, Alfresa Holdings, which operates in Hokuriku through its Kanazawa-based subsidiary Meisho, and local wholesaler Fines all confirmed no injuries to employees or damage to their business sites.
While most reported no major impact on drug deliveries, Fines had to cancel some of its twice-daily deliveries in the Himi area of Toyama, one of the hardest-hit locations. Some deliveries also could not be made in parts of the Hakui area in Ishikawa.
Partial expressway closures also resulted in some deliveries taking longer than usual.
Heavy rain is forecast to continue in the Hokuriku region through August 28, with wholesalers remaining on alert for further disruption while prioritizing employee safety.
