Freeze-Dried BCG Vaccine Shipment Suspended due to Arsenic in Diluent; MHLW Panel Calls for Switch to New Product

Shipments of Japan BCG Laboratory’s freeze-dried BCG vaccine have been suspended following discovery of arsenic above the specified level in its diluent (physiological saline). A health ministry drug safety panel recommended at its meeting on November 5 that the vaccine be switched to a new product as soon as possible, although the arsenic level “does not pose a risk to health.” ...
