MHLW Panel Elaborating Rules for Clinical Research Law, “Scholarship Donations” to Be a Major Focus

The Clinical Research Law was enacted and promulgated in April, and a dedicated health ministry panel kicked off earlier this month to discuss the specifics before its enforcement sometime within a year of the promulgation. The largest change to be brought on by it is that universities and research institutions will now have to abide by a “law,” instead of a “code of ethics,” to implement research funded by drug makers. On an operational front, a major focus in the upcoming discussions is likely to be the handling of “scholarship donations (shogaku-kifu).” ...
